Hello, What model ThinkPad did you purchase? A T23?
I have not tried running Microsoft Windows 7 on a ThinkPad with a P3 1.1GHz CPU, but I did try one of the pre-release builds of Microsoft Windows Vista on my T23 (P3 1GHz, 1GB RAM) and it did work, although it certainly was not a speed demon. Given the age of the CPU, I am assuming your incoming ThinkPad has an older video card, which means it will be limited to using the classic (non-Aero) theme. Also, it may only have USB 1.1 ports, which means you may wish to invest in a FireWire (IEEE- 1394) or USB 2.0 CardBus adapter in order to access faster external peripherals. One thing you might want to look into doing is obtaining some sort of flash RAM drive to use for ReadyBoost, which caches frequently-run applications. USB 1.1 is likely to be too slow for this, but perhaps you can find a PCMCIA- or CardBus- sized flash drive that is fast enough to support this feature. But at some point I might have a go at installing Windows 7 on it. It is a P3 1.1Ghz and I noticed the minimum requirements is a 1Ghz and been reading others who have installed Windows 7 on a lot less and it ran pretty good. Has anyone had experience at running Windows 7 on a P3? For now XP will do as I have XP and dont have Windows 7.
