1. take the battery out, unplug it from the ac adaptor, and hit the
power button
several times, then wait 10 minutes and see if it boots. It isn't
common, but
thinkpads to seem to be able to get into a snit over something, and need a
head alignment.
2. at boot time stare at the disk light. Does it flicker? Obviously it
should.
3. at boot time stare at the screen under a bight light and also in
darkness.
the backlight will have a slight glow in the dark, and under a bright light
you can see activity on the screen, but hard to see without the backlight.
4. you said F4, which is suspend (it is on my w500) ? it thats the case then
you hit an acpi problem and #1 might help.

Have you tried holding down the power switch for 10-15 seconds to
force the system to fully power down? Perhaps its just stuck in some
type of sleep mode or is actually running but the screen is just stuck
'off'?

I have forgotten to say that this morning (Sunday) my system was on, I
used the blue Fn key + F4 to darken the screen and that was the last
time it was on. I went back to start up again and it would not. Possibly
something in that process did it?
Thank you again,
