It's a 200776U with a Centrino Duo, running XP, 2Gig, and 350G disk. I know I
can usefully add another gig of memory, but is there any plausible way to put a
faster processor in it? Knowing the complexity of such things, I suspect not,

Any suggestions?

If you have a v3 system board, you can put a Core 2 Duo (Merom) in there, up to 2.33GHz.

You're right about being able to use 3GB of RAM, but if you have identical sticks (or 4GB), the RAM runs in spiffy mode giving you about 10 - 12% more RAM bandwidth. Worth the expense? That's for you to say.

An SSD will also speed it up quite a lot.

Windows 7 runs very well on a T60, as does Linux.
