According to Lenovo,
Like an airbag's sensor, Active Protection System can detect sudden
changes in motion and temporarily stop the hard drive to help protect
your valuable data from some crashes that could occur due to everyday
notebook accidents.
This would seem to be quite helpful to have on a laptop.
Does anyone have experience in using it? Should I install it?

Serenella,
This is the shock detection system for ThinkPads. It detects
sudden G changes and lifts the disk heads (retracts) for a short
period of time.
I'm not sure how helpful it is, since I've had two thinkpads come
back to me after being dropped (APS enabled), but it can't hurt.
Just don't assume that you're protected.
I'd like to see real world data that suggests it really works.
Pointers welcome!
