I don't think it causes any problems; I've gotten at least 14 thinkpads
that have had that enabled, and I don't know of any problems it has
caused---I just don't know how useful its actually been, given two
thinkpads coming back to me with damaged disks.
So, I'd say install it.

Yes, I was looking for some feedback from people that have this
protection running. Did it help? did it cause other problems?
I have looked into the lenovo forums, but could find nothing really
helpful.

Upgrading a t61p, Thinkvantage System Update offered me
this Active Protection System.
According to Lenovo,
Like an airbag's sensor, Active Protection System can detect sudden
changes in motion and temporarily stop the hard drive to help
protect your valuable data from some crashes that could occur due to
everyday notebook accidents.
This would seem to be quite helpful to have on a laptop.
Does anyone have experience in using it? Should I install it?

Serenella,
This is the shock detection system for ThinkPads. It detects
sudden G changes and lifts the disk heads (retracts) for a short
period of time.
I'm not sure how helpful it is, since I've had two thinkpads come
back to me after being dropped (APS enabled), but it can't hurt.
Just don't assume that you're protected.
I'd like to see real world data that suggests it really works.
Pointers welcome!
