It seems to me you must either guarantee them against DOA or sell them for spare parts. If you check them and they work before shipping then why not take a chance and accept the (very small?) probability that someone will ask for a refund. Or take them to a flea market or computer faire and sell them as-seen. I've had many T42's but I still had to look up BGA to figure out what problem you were concerned about.
