I've sold hundreds of T4x units and found this test to be very good in
determining the GPU health:

http://freestone-group.com/video-card-stability-test.htm

If a machine can take 1000 minutes (which is what I have set as a standard),
the GPU is fine.

Test the SouthBridge chip as well - anything that you plug in USB port and ends
up showing as 1.1 instead of 2.0 will tell you that the chip in question needs
re-balling.

Good luck.

Cheers,

George

Subject: [Thinkpad] Reselling a T4x Thinkpad

I have several T40 and T41 and maybe a few T42 Thinkpads. I'm not selling
them here, per se, but I'm more interested in figuring out whether the BGA
video (or any other) issues would bite me in the arse if I were to sell
these.

I'm just afraid I would be preparing a working laptop (after a long-enough
dormant state) for resale, not find any flaws (especially with respect to
video), advertise it as such, and then have the buyer reply saying there's
no video.

Are there any risks specific to the T4x Thinkpad I should be considering?
