I've heard the difference between SSD and conventional drives can be more
than a few
seconds. But the cost is still prohibitive. But has anyone else heard
rumors
that the cost per megabyte will finally be going under $1 sometime this
year?

Any X220 will take an mSATA SSD. It goes in the slot where a WWAN card would
go. The keyboard and palmrest have to be removed to access that slot. Lenovo
has a video at http://lenovoservicetraining.com

The native 7200 rpm HD in my X220 is working very well, so I haven't seen
the need yet to spend $200 on an Intel 80GB mSATA - which would be the
minimum capacity I'd install - just to get a few seconds faster boot.
