So this morning it finally happened after
decades of computer use: the BSOD with
0x00000024 -- registry corruption.

I put the drive in a tray of another good
T43 and Windows did its best after much
drive spinning.

It boots now and 99% appears to function
normally, but with the following anomalies
that are beyond me. Please advise what to
do:

-System Restore option not offered, only
a screen error message "System restore is
not able to protect your computer."
[However System Restore had allocated the
 12% max to restore points.]

-DVD drive does not appear, and I cannot
 access Disk Management in Administrative
Tools: "The RPC Server is unavailable."

-Cannot turn on the wireless radio.
Selecting "Turn wireless radio on" has
 no effect. In System/Hardware, clicking
 "Properties" for the Intel Pro/Wireless
  2915ABG Network Connection" does not
open a Properties window. In fact,
no Properties window opens for ANY
 device shown. [However the LAN
adapter is working fine, which is how
 I transmit this message.}

-Additional, undiscovered, shortfalls may
or probably do exist, so I'd appreciate
understanding what has happened and the
generic route(s) if any to deal with this
 kind of inevitable failure.

Can this be brought back to life, or do
I have to use recovery disks? There ought
to be a way to repair it IIRC.

Tks for all help.
