Even on machines going back to the 700, 720C, 755?
I know the 300 was made for IBM by someone else. Was it ZDS (Zenith Data
Systems), or someone else?
Speaking of which, I still have mine in storage, but I'm not sure if it
still works; just found my AC adapter.
I don't think my 701's are in operable condition, and I still use my 755CE
occasionally for
connecting to Cisco devices as a console.

The 755's were pretty amazing though - I think the only thing that will save
me as a customer
is if Lenovo does something amazing, otherwise I'll stick with older models
until everything is
beyond EOL.

The Scotland plant which is now a call center assembled ThinkPads way into
early T4x series.

I was told that the small quantities of ThinkPads were assembled in North
Carolina...don't know if it's true.

The planars are Chinese, Foxconn on all of them, though...

Cheers,

George

Makes me wonder where in the US they were assembled, and what parts were

actually

of US origin. I do remember in the mid-90s when some of the 755's and 701's

were

also made in Scotland, and IBM even had tech support in neighboring Ireland

for a short

while (before going to Toronto and RTP).

You might be surprised to learn that some machines were built there long

after Lenovo had acquired the brand.

I've just sold a T61 (dated October of 2008) which was "assembled in Mexico

of U.S. and non-U.S. components for Lenovo". My X61T bears the same

statement on the bottom, build date September of the same year.

Furthermore, I've seen and owned (still have 3) a bunch of Lenovo-era units

that were "assembled in the U.S. of U.S. and non-U.S. components for

Lenovo"...

And the beat goes on...

Cheers,

I'm pretty sure that IBM in El Salto, Mexico, near Guadalajara, was in fact

run by IBM.
