Hello,

Excel 2010 seems to fall over with a generic error message and the option
to restart excel. Updates had been completed around Xmas and i have not done any more since. I guess i could try to check for more but it was awful trying to install office 2010 on windows xp when i had a trial on previously. Dont really
want to risk a reinstall.

Sorry to say this, but you need to uninstall, reboot, install, reboot, apply
all the patches.

Well i went nuclear and it seems to have worked.
Complex formatting/calculations dont kill excel anymore

So thanks for the suggestion.
Now i am through the boring and time consuming bit its time
to image the whole thing before i start the patching cycle and I
can see if it still stays stable

thanks

What did you do?

Reimaged a copy of xp which i had from October 2011before i touched the office trial
Then accepted all defaults on install of 2010.

Ridiculous but it seemed the most likely course of action to succeed.
