Hello,

The X220 has a 7mm high drive bay in it. It also has two MiniPCIe
expansion slots inside, a half-height one where the 802.11n (WLAN)
card goes, and a full-height one where the 3G (WWAN) card goes, if
purchased.

The full-height MiniPCIe expansion slot has the correct pinout and
logic for mSATA compatibility, so if you were to purchase an mSATA
based SSD, it would go in there. You would then have to use a USB
3G/4G modem or hotspot for WWAN access.

The X300 uses a 1.8" MicroSATA drive, which is similar in size to
the PCMCIA form factor (not identical, of course). Crucial, Intel,
KingSpec, Kingston, MyDigitalSSD, OCZ and Super Talent are made
SSDs in that form factor. I'm not sure if all of them still do,
though.

I have an X220 with a MyDigitalSSD 128GB BP3 mSATA SSD in it. The
SSD uses a PHISON S8 controller, which I believe is used by Crucial,
amongst other companies. No problems noted it with it--I'm running
the factory OS load installed via recovery media.

Aryeh Goretsky

I think I've got this straight now.

The X300 wants a 1.8" enclosed SSD, the X220 wants a 2.5" enclosed
SSD, and the X220 can also accommodate an mSATA bare-board SSD if it
doesn't do wireless?

Looking at my X300 with 64GB, what if anything do experts here
recommend for an upgrade?

I think someone recommended myDigital SSD back in Feb-Mar when we were
talking, they seem to go up to 128GB and have mixed (but only 2?)
reviews on Amazon. Good pricing though.

Crucial doesn't make a 1.8", though an old thread somewhere (Lenovo
forum maybe?) has people raving about a 1.8" C300 that I guess is out
of production.

Kingston V+ 180 are cheapish though I've had less than stellar
recommendations of them off-list.

OCZ Vertex 2 comes in 40/90/180 and used to come in 60/120/240 which
are discontinued for some reason.

Lenovo branded (Samsung?) is a bit pricey but available.

Are any of these good choices? Bad choices? Any other choices? I may
have another ship-to-US window in the next few days so Amazon Prime is
a positive factor but not essential in this case.

And what will I use to migrate? Is there a 1.8" cable out there or a
1.8-2.5 adapter I can use with the Apricorn cable I bought? Obviously
it won't be USB 3.0 on the X300.

Thanks!
