I followed a link posted on this forum and got Thunderbird working http://getsatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/hotmail_thunderbird_3_0_manual_account_setup
First I removed the webmail and hotmail add-ons Then I deleted my hotmail account and then added it again using Tools - Account Settings - Account actions (right at bottom left) - add mail account It now works Great
