This is something I encountered before with Yahoo,
If I logged in to the account with firefox it said the certificate was
out of date.
It was possible to download a new certificate and import this in
thunderbird.
This solved the RFC error 2 times for me.
I can't remember the precise procedure, but with the aid of google it
wasn't that hard alltogether.
