Peter,
If as in TiddlyBlink you are using story view zooming, you could create a
tiddler $:/config/EmptyStoryMessage content
{{Tiddlername||$:/core/ui/ViewTemplate}}.
When the story is empty this tiddler will be shown.
If this is the case you could use a shortcut for close all.
To be honest i get tired just thinking about it ;-)
