Very Roam-like! It does require a rather wide window, even with the sidebar closed. You mentioned the gap so maybe that would help.
I often use the side-by-side feature in Roam, but haven't felt the need for it with TiddlyWiki because I use the "classic" story view so clicking a link opens the tiddler directly above the current one so I can see them both at the same time that way (depending on how much text, etc) with just a little scrolling. I'd love to see this fleshed out, though!
