I don't understand what do you prefer about the Stephan's implementation.
My answer was not intended to replace its implementation but to give you a
guide. The exact implementation would be:

If you want that button in the top-menu, the only thing you have to do is,
put the code that I posted above in a new tiddler. Entitle it however you
want. Open your top-bar tiddler, for me is $:/TopSideBar, maybe for you is
different. And then, put your button tiddler there. Something like this:
