IMO it highly depends on the monitor settings, how you see the colours. 
I'm not colour blind according to these tests :)

But I also think that the black on gold is difficult to read. 

I personally don't like #eecc77 as default colour. It's to light for me. 
I'd prefer the white text colour instead.
