While there likely is a performance benefit to that, you could easily use [search[#hashtag]]. However, clicking on a hashtag to find related results isn't going to be something you'll be doing all the time. But seeing a #hashtag rendered as a clickable link doesn't come with any more overhead than rendering any type of link!
