Summary (if link dies):

In Chrome: Settings > More tools > Add to desktop... If possible, check the 
"Open as window" option to have the to-be app open as a window, seemingly 
not the browser.

This creates icon link on desktop.

Bonus: Follow up with right click on icon and pin to taskbar.
