I'm probably unclear because I am assuming there is a way to add a custom 
field once only, and have it show up in all Tiddlers globally, or within a 
'sub-story' or whatever a particular branch of content hierarchy is called.

Am I wrong? If so, this means opening every single Tiddler to add this 
field, which is a pain.
