MacOS, Windows, Linux Microsoft won't develop PS 5 further, only provide bug fixes. 6 (aka "PS Core") is more limited than 5 because its cross platform. This article gives a brief overview: https://www.ghacks.net/2018/01/12/powershell-vs-powershell-core-what-you-need-to-know/ How much Mac or Linux users will adopt it is unclear.
