At this moment my interest is theoretical. I have produced the documentation and training materials for several software development projects with a requirement for context-sensitive help (CSH). Because there is no market-leading web help standard, CHM has always been the reasonable solution. Adobe RoboHelp, MadCap Flare, and other vendors offer HTML/XHTML "web help" that have many features similar to TiddlyWiki. DITA is the new kid on the block standard-wise and most of the big boys already have or plan to have some form of support for it. My brain made the connection and is curious about how far TiddlyWiki could go to compete feature-for-feature with the commercial big boys. In my mind, all of this about information architecture and design: the intelligent decomposition of content for the purpose of recomposing for efficient use and reuse. Probably the strongest element that attracts me to hypothesizing the use of TiddlyWiki over RoboHelp or Flare is the ease of collaboration. With a reasonable team size, multiple authors and editors can easily work on TiddlyWiki content. Getting back to the adaptor possibilities for a moment, it might even be possible to "publish" tiddlers straight to RoboHelp, Flare, or DITA -compatible files for direct inclusion in their projects. Before becoming a technical communicator, my background was in software development. My specialty has been data conversion and migration. I have picked apart HLP, RTF, CHM, Flare, and other file formats to see how they work, how they fail, and how I can get content from point A to point Anywhere. I've tinkered with TiddlyWiki enough now to realize it is a very useful framework for the kind of content manipulation I lay awake at night thinking about. I know. I should get a hobby.
