In TW Classic there is """plain text""", but I wouldn't know if that's more convenient. Then you can also use HTML entitities. I don't think it would be sensible to introduce any kind of low level escaping, e.g. -\-.
HI even use Autootkey to turn any -- into — as I don't find double hashes visually pleasing at all. So, the solution isn't always within TiddlyWiki.
