I also was thinking about that but I'm not as sure yet as you seem to be.

Usually I think it's okay, but I also think that there *should* be a way to

Yes... But it's (to my feeling) ugly... See  attachment. Additioanlly I 
loose the ability to italicize words.

No. I wouldn't like that at all.
 

I thought that ~ should work. So ~--file would switch off this rendering, 
but it sems ~ is simply for WikiWords.

But maybe it would be a good idea to generalize ~ for this purpose?
