Hi,

I am sending this out to those I feel maybe interested in joining me in
this cohort training. I have had some discussion with some of you already
but along with scheduling our first meeting, this is also meant as an
invitation to several not in our related groups that I felt may also be
interested in joining. Please do note this is a 3 month course but as I
understand it will only require an hour per week.

The team at ADL have created a free learning opportunity available to
anyone who would like to learn more about TinCan / xAPI (the new and
improved SCORM). Those familiar with the older SCORM version know it met
its goals but evolved from older technologies and many may have felt
encumbered by complicated hierarchal designs, steep learning curves,
limited creation tools, and integration headaches in using toward
educational pursuits. This new xAPI resolves these issues by providing a
very simple yet inspired design with the flexibility to integrate into
almost any system! No prior knowledge is required on the learner for this
event and it sounds like a great chance to increase our knowledge and
skills in using this technology towards our individual educational
endeavors.

Details for this training event are here:

Having worked to support many educators in a wide variety of educational
systems all with specific learning content and reporting needs and having
participated in several open source educational projects, I realize the
incredible potential xAPI provides and am very excited about what the team
at ADL have created and made available to us. Many LMS systems and content
creation tools now have xAPI capabilities and more systems are coming on
board all the time!

For me personally, I now realize that my life's work has always been to
find the best method of using the computer as an interactive learning tool,
for myself, my students, and in support of other teachers and schools in
their missions. Since the personal computer was first released I have
tinkered with technology to create what to me always seemed to be the best
meld of mind and machine toward that goal. Long term it is my hope to
become proficient enough in using xAPI to integrate it into educational
platforms I work with on a daily basis such as KA-Lite, Moodle, etc. Short
term I hope to combine xAPI with other outstanding technologies such as
TiddlyWiki, I feel this may provide an opportunity to create a very
flexible, non intrusive (as in no extra software installation required),
peer based, decentralized student / teacher notebook with fully functional
LMS capabilities to off line students on almost any computing device from
cell phones to desktops.

I am doing what I can to make others aware of these new capabilities and
bring those I know of like mind to this training in the hope to see this
potential realized.

We are planning a pre-registration Google hangout to discuss our teams
goals and the team project we hope to create using these technologies and I
would like to invite anyone interested to join us. Because this is an
international group we are looking for the best time to match everyone's
schedules who would like to be a part of that meeting. Please reply if
interested and go here: http://whenisgood.net/qzrchyb to help select a best
time for our meeting (which will be recorded if you are unavailable) and I
look forward to seeing you soon!

Thanks,
