Did you by any chance look at how Snowgoon did it <https://github.com/snowgoon88/TW5-extendedit/tree/master/plugin/files>? If I understand right, his version requires an alternative editor - could this position issue be why? Trying to use the inspector tool on his popup indicates that his popup is generated inside the editor:
