Folks First a comment on the character selected. I belive it should be unlikely to be used on any key board or language in normal text especialy that it not be the first character in a line or used in its double form for use in line.
There are more than enough opportunities to use shortcuts or toolbar buttons to access a special character. When on mobile devices we are used to using a button rather than a keyboard for special functions. we tend to select and apply. What ever character is chosen it should be easy to find when looking for it at the beginning of a line and when doubled inline. However similtaniously it should be almost invisible when reading text. To be honest tick is perfect but for its similarity to others. I will search for some possibilities today.
