This is somewhat strange. I've never seen that Xvnc starts up with numlock
enabled. Can you verify if this happens even if you start something basic
such as an xterm? My guess is that the Ubuntu desktop or something similar
activates numlock.
Since the VNC protocol lacks numlock sync, I recommend that you have
numlock off in the Xvnc session. If you fail to locate what's activating
numlock, you might want to try to removing Num_Lock from the xmodmap
modifier map (ie xmodmap -e "remove mod2 = Num_Lock"). There's also a
"numlockx" utility.
