A 10811 is guaranteed to work in any 10544 socket, but not necessarily vice versa. This enabled HP to avoid having to have a lifetime run of 10544's. The internals are totally different. Besides the different oven design, the oscillator circuit is completely different and it uses an SC cut crystal instead of an AT cut. The main advantage of the 10811 over the 10544 is faster warm up from a cold start. I'm sure most time nuts keep their oscillators running all the time, so the fast warmup is moot.
