This is a bigger deal than one might think. Especially since calendaring software tries to be helpful and adjust things. So while you might want your alarm clock on your iPhone to ring at, say, 730AM LOCAL time, if you set an appointment in pacific time zone, it helpfully changes it to 3 hours earlier when you land in EDT land.
