The most expensive part of the setup is the interface card between the PC and GPIB.
Next you will need GPIB cables.

A free GPIB package is available for 32 bit Linux. I use it to talk to my Racal-Dana 1992, spectrum analyzers, selective voltmeter, and signal generator. You have to write the
high level stuff.
