I can't claim it's 100%, but all the ones I've seen that had the FEI logo and the address silk-screened onto the metal case and a single adhesive label with the serial number have been the old ones. The new units have two adhesive labels and no screen printing. Note that this only seems to work for the FE-5680A - I have also seen a FE-5680B that had the new type electronics and was screen printed.
Has anyone on the list got one that doesn't follow this rule?
