The BNC conversion had crossed my mind.
 
I have adapters here somewhere...  Just have to locate  the somewhere!!

I bought  a WECO adapter when I got my 3586B.
Turns out there at least two WECO  connectors and I got one that didn't fit.

So I replaced the 3856B input  connector with a BNC jack.
Problem solved.
