I've been hacking together with a BGP aware DNS server for pool.ntp.org.
It has a list of servers that can answer for a particular hostname and
will return the closest one network-wise for each client. It could be
considered a poor man's ultradns.
I've pretty rough right now, but I might be able to release a testing
version this week-end. Stay tuned. :-)
Okay, let's give this a try.
I've setup ntp-pool-test.logidac.com as a testing BGP-aware DNS server.
0.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com <-> 193.17.70.59, me, EU,RO (rtt
min/avg/max/mdev = 0.221/0.271/0.322/0.053)
1.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com <-> 80.96.120.249, USV, EU,RO (1ms)
2.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com <-> 80.96.120.252, USV, EU,RO (1ms)
3.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com <-> 82.76.130.137, EU,RO (rtt
min/avg/max/mdev = 22.347/32.943/38.036/6.231 ms, pipe 2)
4.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com <->82.76.121.165, EU,RO (rtt
min/avg/max/mdev = 19.802/29.227/44.007/9.193 ms, pipe 2)
All results where good, ping was max 40ms. At first three average was 1ms.
I think its better than normal ntp pool.
P.S. anyone can force at this list the reply to "timekeepers at
fortytwo.ch" cause a normal reply takes me to the last sender from the
thread
and just reply-to-all adds the list. Please set at mailman explictit
reply-to header to timekeepers at fortytwo.ch
Thanks.
