So what happens on a PC running just e.g. FreeBSD? Is the BIOS clock
always kept in UTC? Or local time?

I'm interested to know what will happen when I next reboot my
FreeBSD/GPS stratum 1 server, which has been up since the end of
January when we were on winter time (i.e. UTC here)!
FreeBSD will work with either convention, although if the machine is
dedicated to running FreeBSD, keeping the BIOS clock set to UTC is
considered preferable.

Reading the tzsetup(8) and adjkerntz(8) manpages should provide useful
information on how to set the time zone correctly.

Thanks, Chuck. I looked up the command and it has the appropriate options. I will need to write myself a reminder about it though, as I type perhaps 1 FreeBSD command every two months!

David
