Hmm, odd, I'm using xen with redhat 5.0 though 5.4, haven't seen any
issues. Also with ubuntu using xen 3.1 and 3.2 (using 7.04, 7.10, 8.04)
I wonder what timing source xen is using, if it's really using
jiffies, and jiffies is bad, whereas normal kernel is using hfec (or
whatever it was).

I've no experience with Xen, but when I
had that problem with Vmware, the solution was a kernel patch, but
that was 3+ years ago. If you can
try a different virtualization environment, I'd go that route.
unfortunately, i don't have the option (atm). i've filed a bug report
with novell's kernel folks. we'll see whether they acknowledge or
dismiss the problem.
