@janneman I also agree with you. It's exactly what I understand for "the way the community interacts with OpenERP" or better "the way OpenERP interacts with the community", I think they really should study what communities are releasing and merge the interesting developments into the core.
Following the example you mention, the standard Year End procedure was not suitable at all for the Spanish Localization, so we developped our own module: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~openerp-spain-team/openerp-spain/5.0/files/head%3A/l10n_es/l10n_ES_cierre_ejercicio/ We didn't change the core functionality because we only know about the Spanish accounting system! Maybe, if we knew this was interesting for the core, the development would have been different, extending or modifying the core one. The problem here is that there is a lot of lack of knowledge around the OpenERP ecosystem. In general, a lot of modules developped doesn't recieve the attention they deserve and we could write a lot about Launchpad usability but nothing good at all. But, again, this has been pointed out a lot of times and from different people. Maybe it's time for the community to go a step forward, and start organizing this things by ourselves with OpenERP SA supervision, instead of waiting for something that we really don't know how and when it's going to be done.
