Perhaps it's the word "submit" that at least in our culture, elicits
negative reactions. I prefer to view it as "deferring" to my husband in
situations where  he has more knowledge, expertise, skills, etc., and it is
reciprocated. In tax matters, for example, it is my husband who figures and
completes the forms, otherwise, we'd both end up in jail. Car maintainence
is my forte.

In my never so humble opinion, I think couples are headed for trouble when
they approach relationships with the idea that both partners are equal
(egalitarian) and that it's going to be a 50-50 proposition. They are not
equal and to try to achieve the latter means keeping score. Each brings
skills, abilities, etc., that the other one might be hard pressed to
demonstrate...the Exchange Theory in other words. I tend to prefer and work
for an equitable marriage: is it fair, just, etc?
