Yes. I have talked to others who think faculty get something special that other
professions do not have - but this is not true. Tenure merely guarantees due
process. When physicans and lawyers are fired, they are not given pick slips and
asked to clear their desks by the end of the week! In most cases they are
counseled to improve, reassigned duties, and the like, to get them back on
track. After all, they are an investment. It's not that different in academia.

(In a few professions, in contrast, you vacate pretty quick after the decision
is made. My wife used to be a radio personality at a small station. They do not
want you "on the air" long after finding out you are fired! You get fired, the
desk contents go on the front steps, and out you go! I would imagine the same
logic applies to professional coaches. Would you want a disgruntled, lame duck
to coach your team?).
