Yes. I have talked to others who think faculty get something special that other professions do not have - but this is not true. Tenure merely guarantees due process. When physicans and lawyers are fired, they are not given pick slips and asked to clear their desks by the end of the week! In most cases they are counseled to improve, reassigned duties, and the like, to get them back on track. After all, they are an investment. It's not that different in academia.
(In a few professions, in contrast, you vacate pretty quick after the decision is made. My wife used to be a radio personality at a small station. They do not want you "on the air" long after finding out you are fired! You get fired, the desk contents go on the front steps, and out you go! I would imagine the same logic applies to professional coaches. Would you want a disgruntled, lame duck to coach your team?). jim clark wrote: > Hi > > On Thu, 17 Jan 2002, Richard Pisacreta, Ph.D. wrote: > > There is a common misperception by the public (and some academics) about > > what tenure means.
