TIPsters,

I really want to thank everyone for their support - expressed in both
public and private messages. I have been trying to thank everyone
personally, but in case I have missed someone - thanks again!

Things have calmed down a bit following the initial shock on Friday. Local
support is starting to materialize, so my wife's initial feeling that she
had been abandoned by the university has faded at least a bit.

One of the best pieces of advice was to contact the AAUP. We had not
considered that because neither of us is an AAUP member. But, my wife has
been told that she is protected by the AAUP even if not a member! Now
*that* is a great organization. The local AAUP rep has already informed
her that the university has violated several of its own policies - policies
which, if followed, would have made the whole process seem a lot less
adversarial.

I will post periodic updates. This will probably take quite a while to
resolve, but the whole process feels a lot better than it did even 24 hours
ago.

Thanks again! This list really is populated by a classy bunch of folks.

-- Jim

P.S. My wife and I are both planning to fill out those AAUP membership
forms first thing in the morning!
