Hi, After being a TIPS lurker off and on for several years I would now like to directly take advantage of the combined wisdom of the list ...
While covering a unit on consciousness, levels of awareness, and sleep in my general psychology class I was asked several questions I was unable to answer (as is often the case, but shhhh...don't tell 'em ;-) Most notably - 1. Why do some people have a heightened sense of awareness when awakened from stage 1 sleep? (I said I don't seem to experience a heightened sense of awareness when dozing off but several of my students were insistent that they did.) 2. When someone is sleep walking/talking, why is it so difficult to wake them? (I said because they are in one of the deep stages of sleep --stage 3 or 4-- but wasn't sure) thanks, Mark ************************* C.
