It's that pesky intro that kept it off the airwaves. :-(

For those who have never heard of it, btw, Maggot Brain has one
of the greatest guitar solos ever recorded (it's right up there with
Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow), but begins with the single recited lyric:

"Mother Earth is pregnant for the third time, for y'all have
knocked her up. I have tasted the maggots in the mind of the universe
and was not offended for I knew I must rise above it all--or drown in my
own s***!"

Only one word, but in the sixties that was enough to keep it off
the air (remember, Mike, there was only one line in "I want to ball you
all night long," too--the in the title--but it kept it off the air!).

Incidentally, for the music lovers, don't waste your money on
the CD version of Maggot Brain--it is NOT the same recording that was on
the vinyl and the guitar solo is NOT up to the same standard (if anyone
knows where a copy of the vinyl can be begged, borrowed, or stolen long
enough to transfer to disc, btw . . . ;-). Hopefully, a remastering of
the original recording will eventually be available.

        Rick
