Is anyone in TIPSterville familiar with Franzoi's Psychology - A Journey
of Discovery, published by Atomic Dog Publishing?

I am seriously considering adopting this textbook, in the absence of any
counterindicitive (??) information, for three primary reasons.

1. Cost -- The online version costs the student only $17.95. For those
who prefer the comfort of having a few pounds resting in their lap, the
traditional printed text costs $36.95. That price includes access to the
online version. Students can purchase the textbook online, or the
textbook (online, or both, versions) can be sold by the college
bookstore. Presumably, the bookstore will add a markup to these prices.

2. Hypertext capabilities -- More than any other textbook I am aware of,
this one approaches the fulfillment of the potential offered by
hypertext. Instructors can add content to the online version. In much
the same way I might add to the text content in a lecture setting
(alternative viewpoint, additional examples, expanded coverage, etc.), I
can add material to the online text. I can also add section quizzes (in
addition to what is in the incorporated online Study Guide), links to
outside web sites, etc. Since my entire teaching load is composed of
online courses, this is a very attractive feature to me.

3. Reinforcement -- As a good behaviorist, I always try to reinforce
desirable behavior. The development of such a book format clearly falls
within my definition of "desirable behavior".

If you are not familiar with this new textbook, but are interested, you
can examine it and the features at:
http://www.atomicdogpublishing.com/BookDetails.asp?BookEditionID=91
You will have to register (free and easy). Click on the "Review this
Book Online" link to have full, permanent, access to the entire text
(kind of like a desk copy or examination copy) and play with the
features. Anything you add now stays with your edition, to be retained
for future use or to be modified later. (Clicking on "View Demo
Chapter" only allows you to see one chapter, and the customizing
capabilities are not turned on.)

I am very interested in the reactions of other TIPSters to both the
concept and this specific textbook.
