You might be correct about the less costly versions as a viable cost-cutting alternative, particularly for on-campus students, Deb. However, my students are all online to begin with, so they are probably a bit more oriented toward online material. And, if they did print out the material, it would be on their own printers with their own paper and ink. They are not even happy about coming on-campus to take the exams, so they would be unlikely to use our equipment. I am not sure about the economics of printing out the material, if they wanted to. For the person who wants a paper copy, the $36.95 gets them the paper version plus access to the online version so they can access what material I add.
I have a class chat session for one section starting at 8:00 tonight, and am going to survey the current students about what they think. (They had to pay over $100.00 for their textbooks, so I sort of dread bringing it up with them.) I'll let you know what they have to say about the idea.
