You will be one fortunate person if you get a position near Boston in next few months. In my experience, new Ph.D.s must send out a much broader call--"Is there any campus in the English-speaking world that has a tenure-track opening in my specialty at this point in time?" Location should be way down in the list of priorities at this time. Later, you can search for ways to move closer to where you really want to live.
If staying near Boston is a top priority, you may have to settle for grabbing part-time teaching jobs with little opportunity to get a program of research going. Other TIPS members can provide details on why part-time work is dissatisfying. Of course, if you have a significant other involved, then it gets complicated and someone probably has to give up part of their dream--at least for a while.
But good luck with your job search. We'll probably have a couple of openings in psychology here at Humboldt State (if the dean allows it--budget crunch, you know).
