Believe me, I'm not naive: I realize that limiting my search to Boston and
environs drastically reduces my chances. I have a number of personal and
highly compelling reasons for doing so, though, the most salient of which
is that it would be almost impossible for my husband to do what he does
anywhere other than Boston/Cambridge.

There is an alternative to adjunct teaching, by the way: administration.
Pays better, provides benefits and paid time off, gets you better access
to libraries, and is far, far less stressful than the life of a "road
scholar." That's how I support myself now, and how I'll continue to do so
until I find a teaching job.
