Student's question

[Dr. Bob Wildblood]

I have a genuine student's question. He is interested in doing a quick and dirty experiment to determine if people will remember pictures that show violence at a higher rate than pictures that are neutral or show positive human interactions; however, the first question he asks is whether or not there is any literature available that discusses the reasons that many people seem to seek out movies, books, etc. that depict violence. Does anyone have any leads for this student? The most violent that I ever get is watching Purdue U. get whacked when they play football (except when they play a game against a non-football team such as Northwestern). Any help will be appreciated.
