Whenever possible (depending on the classroom I am in) I do the same with my
powerpoint slides. I often find that I want to add stuff to them, or if it is a
picture, such as a slide of a brain in intro, I may want to emphasize certain
areas, etc. Projecting onto a white board allows me to 'interact' with my
slides.

I agree with the postee who commented on going blind by looking into the
overhead projector! It was one of my motivations to switch to power point.

I also agree with the postee who said it breathed new life into his lectures!
I also find that in making the transition I had to re-evaluate my material. I
think I am a better teacher for these and other reasons by switching to power
point; but I think for all of us it boils down to an individual difference or
style.
