All, I’d agree with some of the assessment that having the notes isn’t a reasonable accommodation. If it were an essay test where you are requiring significant planning and high conceptualization of the material then it MIGHT make sense but the more reasonable accommodation there would be if everyone had notes OR if you used a limited set of ‘cheat sheet’ notes or cards (one 3 X 5 index card for example). It seems to me there has been a disconnect between your college’s DSS and the student and your class. I believe DSS should contact you directly and would be mildly suspicious that the student hadn’t actually identified to them or wasn’t communicating clearly to the correct person what was going on. Another possibility is that they are creatively remembering the suggestions made by DSS or the student isn’t communicating clearly to DSS what the problem is- or vice versa (OK my real suspicion is that they took this “advice” from a form or set of helpful suggestions in a brochure somewhere and it hasn’t really anything to do with a specific course- that’s just a WAG). Perhaps I’m just not getting
it, but if it’s a short-term memory problem, how are notes going to help?
Notes would help with a long-term memory problem, but with a short term
memory problem, regardless of where information is acquired (notes or LTM),
there would be difficulty in holding information in place long enough to
transfer it to the test answer sheet. You are currently subscribed to tips as: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] |
